In modern society, with the help of new technologies our healthcare has been revolutionised a much and with this the people ought to live longer than ever before. However there’s been much discussion revolving around the same issue in which people believe that this might not be good for societies as older people are increasing in proportion. Whereas, many other’s assert that it might be good for them to have their parents and grandparents at home. In my opinion these have both pros and cons and we will be discussing the same in forthcoming para’s.
To start with, I would like to mention the demerits of having such huge population of older people in community. Firstly, these elderly individuals have a very high chance of being prone to various diseases because of weak immune system which in turn makes the family and the society vulnerable to any such threat. Moreover managing with their medical expenses and care alongside with medicines make a huge burden on the family financially and economically. To be more exact, having such increased proportion of them living also makes it difficult for general public to seek any medical attention because hospitals and clinics are mostly occupied with these older people and other’s do not get such possible care for themselves.
Whereas on flip side, having our older generations at home and society may provide us with some lucrative features such as for children’s whose both parent’s are working it is the care and nourishment of the grandparents that flourishes through their childhood and nurtures them, which significantly makes it easier on parenting and earning side by side as well.Apart from this, it makes much more of a positive environment around ourselves when we have older people around us because of the fact that they provide us with good knowledge and blessings that they achieved in their lifetime. Last but not least it is evidently said in hindu mythology that seeking blessings from our elders and taking care of them makes us purify our soul.
Having considered all arguments, I would like to conclude that an individual must take care of his/her grandparents and parents the way they took care of him as a child and it is responsibility of the person to not let them become a burden on family and society as well, if taken good care and with proper well-being i firmly believe that these older people might contribute to the good of community.
