Kids’ eating habits and lifestyles have changed around the world these days from those families used to have in previous generations. I consider these changes to have negative effects on children’s health since they include increased fast-food consumption, higher sugar intake, and sedentarism. This essay will show how these new customs negatively affect people’s well-being, particularly regarding diet and physical activity.
Firstly, new eating habits and régimes involve a higher consumption of fast food in our eating patterns than in other generations; this fact increases the amount of fats that infants eat neglecting necessary elements such as vitamins and minerals crucial for a balanced diet. For example, many people opt for junk food such as burgers, fries, pizza, and sugary drinks instead of home-cooked meals rich in vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
Secondly, modern dietary customs also involve a significant increase in sugars which have become a fundamental part of people’s lives. In the specific case of our childhood, excessive sugar intake might lead to issues such as hyperactivity and an increased risk of illnesses like diabetes. These health concerns can have long-term consequences affecting future generations. For instance, boys and girls who frequently consume sugary cereals, snacks, and sodas may have energy spikes followed by crashes leading to problems in concentration and learning. Over time, regular ingestion of these kinds of products contributes to the early onset of different types of diabetes setting the stage for lifelong well-being challenges.
Thirdly, new lifestyles not only refer to a lack of healthy habits but also, include sedentary behaviors. Boys and girls spend lots of time at home, often in front of their cellphones and computers. For many families, it is more convenient to keep their sons and daughters at home rather than encourage them to participate in outdoor activities such as sports, physical exercise, or even simple walks. this trend contributes to a poor state of being and health problems among the younger generation.
To sum up, new healthy practices and lifestyles are detrimental to kids’ well-being as they now adopt routines that are very unhealthy. In my opinion, parents should be aware of their children’s current needs regarding nutrition and physical activity to ensure they have healthier futures.
