It has been an ongoing problem in our society that people with high qualifications are , suprisingly, unemployed. In my opinion, there are various factors that resulted in such issue, with the main ones being social positions and lack of practical skills. In order to prevent this urging crisis, the governments should put up new policies and individual must take action themselves.
Regarding the root causes of this problem, social positions might be a crucial factor for this issue. Firstly, in many workplace and employment settings nowadays, still exist many unfairnesses regarding the employment and promotion chance for regular people, especially in political setting, where bloodlines and inheritances play a crucial role. For instance, the authorities in many small areas of Southeast Asian countries, it is common for the descendants of political figures to inherit their parents legacy regardless of talents. Secondly, another possible cause for this problem is that many talented people with lots of qualifications lack practical skills for jobs. Being able to perform outstandingly on paper alone would not make a promising candidate in the employers’ eyes if they could not put those knowledge into actions. Many young people nowadays often miss this crucial factor for employment, assuring themselves with their qualifications without having concerns about their actual skills for the job. These factors alone could wither away your employment chance even if you have highly qualified results on papers.
To tackle this problem, first and foremost, the governments should take actions immediately, searching and punishing those abusing their families’ power in employment settings. New policies should also be introduced to reward highly qualified people for how much they have achieved, providing them with better job opportunities. In addition, individuals should also take matters into their own hands, reflecting on whether they really have the practical skills to qualify for the jobs or not.
In conclusion, the phenomenon of people who are highly qualified being unemployed is due to various reasons, ranging from inequality in employment settings to self-insufficiency. Only by taking actions by themselves with the help of the governments could qualified individuals thrive in the labour markets with the skills they have refined.
