In the contemporary world, it is true that both males and females are in full-time employment in many nations. That led to the argument that they should split up domestic chores equally regardless of gender to support each other on a daily basis and mitigate the burden on one person. To my viewpoint, although this is a significant step towards gender equality when both contribute to the task, I believe that the division also depends on working time and health conditions.
First and foremost, some proponents have conceived it as a marvelous idea to share household chores, since it can promote awareness and gender equality rights for women. As a result, more and more female employees have been offered jobs in numerous departments. To some extent, this also embodies the innovation of the labour force in modern society. Compared to the past, whilst most men were considered as family breadwinners, women were housewives being restricted to domestic tasks such as cleaning the house, doing laundry, cooking and taking care of the children. This was broadly unfair to limit women and restrict them from exploring their potentialities. Consequently, the change in women’s responsibilities is no longer limited as before, but they have more and more opportunities to affirm their position in society. Moreover, men being responsible for an equal amount of housework would enable women to have less workload and pressure, and thus, they have more time for relaxation when receiving a hand from their partner. When sharing tasks together, it not only contributes to a happy family, but also enhances their responsibility in their house or even in the society.
Nevertheless, in some cases, there is no need to be too strict in dividing work to be truly equal as it can be flexible, based on each individual’s schedule and health conditions. To be more specific, some women may not have sufficient stamina to work for long hours compared to men. Hence, they may be easily exhausted and it could affect their productivity and quality of life. Furthermore, it is hard to separate the household chores equally due to the different schedule.
Particular professions require employees to complete assignments or undertake analyses after work at times, leaving these employees little time or energy for domestic chores. In these times, a helping hand of their spouse is necessary and useful to make sure to fulfill the houseworks if their schedule is not hectic as their significant other’s.
In conclusion, despite people assisting each other to do household chores encouraging gender equality, I believe we should not be excessively strict about the application of this rule. Distributing the same amount of housework to both sexes is ideal, however, depending on circumstances to make appropriate division. These small actions make a happy house.
