Pregnant ladies are given maternity time off when they give birth to a new baby, in various nations. It is a common type of leave that every organization allows to women as they undergo surgery. In this essay, I will express the merits and demerits of the leave after childbirth and state my opinion in the conclusion.
On the one hand, the main benefit is that mothers can take care of the baby very well, at least for the first month. Intensive care and love are more critical for a newborn since they are very sensitive. For instance, breast milk is the only meal they can take for the first two or three months. Therefore, that leave is necessary for a mother to give the required warmth and attention that her baby needs. Moreover, a woman requires some time to recover from surgery, ensuring her normal health condition.
On the other hand, there are several drawbacks to maternity leave. Firstly, it will be very challenging for her to get back into the daily working life after a long time off. For example, she may forget basic things about her work, the rules and regulations of the workplace, and sometimes new updates could have been applied to the system. Secondly, the workload of another worker at her company could increase due to her time off. That would be embarrassing for other people, with addtional work that they have to do.
In conclusion, organizations provide essential leave for women after their childbirth, in numerous countries. There are advantages, like good care of the baby, and healthy recovery of the mother, while disadvantages could be problems in the workplace. In my view, despite the drawbacks arising from the time off, mothers gain more benefits from the maternity leave.
