In this day and age, there is a phenomenon of young people moving out of their rural houses to learn and work in cities. This essay aims to discuss several rationales behind this tendency, and from my viewpoint, its benefits do not outweigh the drawbacks.
One of the contributing factors to this situation is that young people seek for promising employment prospects. Numerous international firms and businesses have based their headquarters in big cities due to the better infrastructure, facilities, and population. For instance, there are various multinational and tech-giant companies in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, attracting talented individuals to work for them by offering high salaries and optimal working environments that cannot be guaranteed in rural places. Therefore, young individuals, in order to have job opportunities with better conditions, tend to accommodate in big cities. Moreover, another key rationale behind this phenomenon is fuller access to services such as shopping malls, groceries, and recreational areas. Big cities are representatives of one country, so governments have to allocate the national economy to enhance residents’ lives here with better infrastructure, tourist attractions, and facilities.
On the contrary, there are several problems associated with this migration. First and foremost, to meet the heavy demands for accommodation in short periods, local authorities have to erect more towers and skyscrapers, leaving no space for green areas. Consequently, air quality in these places is deteriorating rapidly, posing threats to residents’ health. Furthermore, governments cannot fully take control of their communities because of high populations, culminating in increased crime rates and criminal activities, directly creating bad reputations for these cities. At the same time, rural communities are in jeopardy since fewer young individuals are working here, leaving an aging population and several economic issues.
To recapitulate, it is undeniable that living in big cities may bring several benefits at the individual level; nevertheless, I consider it a negative influence due to various drawbacks.
