In many countries, face-to-face interaction with friends and family became less common among young people, instead they opt for spending time online. In my opinion, this change is mainly caused by content that is provided to public and inadequate attention from family members. I firmly believe this is a negative development due to several reasons.
One key factor behind this trend is diversity in social content. In the past decade, social platforms were limited or even did not exist and children were not keen on using them. However now availability of different contents lead to that adolescents became more curious in them and they simply find it more interesting than real interaction with friends.
The weakened family bonds also contribute to this trend. Some parents with hectic schedules are not always able to fully participate in their children’s upbringing. Therefore, a child who do not receive an adequate attention and do not have strict limits starts to use social media platforms without stopping.
I believe it represents a highly negative development due to two main factors. For one, spending too much time in social media may lead to several mental issues. For instance, playing videogames without stopping, scrolling for hours can make a growing body more nervous, anxious and apprehensive due to the pressure get from the game or videos. Moreover, the loss of connection between close people is also a reason for worry. When parents try to set a limit and reduce time spending online, children do not agree and argue, which may create a distance between them. As a result, due to using social media more than enough children may become more nervouse, which then lead to weakened family bonds.
In conclusion, this shift in using online apps became very common because of two main reasons, such as diversity in social content and lack of interaction between family members. In my opinion, this is a negative development mainly because this trend may lead to several mental concerns and make the family connection worse.
