With the increased lifespan worldwide, and some people living to more extended years, it was argued by some people that this has drawbacks to humanity. I stand with those who believe that elders contribute to society in different ways, such as in administration and business.
On one hand, critics believe that aging population is challenging as they are expensive to be taken care of. This can be explained by extended periods of pension payment to these individuals. It was also argued that a significant percentage of taxpayer’s money is spent on elders by the government, raising concerns about expenditure on development and education instead. Moreover, these elderly are no longer taken care of by their family members, since they are carried by their own life chores. Consequently, old people are forced to settle in nursing homes, in order to receive optimum care. Unfortunately, critics have stated that most nursing homes are limited in capacity compared to the huge number of care seekers. As a result, elderly are challenged with prolonged waiting times so as to get admitted into one of them.
However, older people’s contributions to the community are undeniable. They have benefitted communities through their experience in various fields such as healthcare and entrepreneurship, building generations of capable individuals. A prime example is Warren Buffett, who was a CEO of a finance group for over 60 years. Throughout his career, he has grown the company and it recorded exceptional figures. Furthermore, I believe that the elder community is an essential pillar for every household, as they serve as caregivers and a source of wisdom to family members.
In conclusion, although some argue that it’s not financially convenient to take care of our beloved elders, on balance, I believe that they’re worthy of money spent for their sake as they are the root of every house.
