In a lot of countries, co-education is provided to students, but it is believed by some that boys and girls should not be schooled together. I totally disagree with this statement because when children are brought up in a unisex school system, they are more prone to confidence issues, and they are more likely to have prejudice against the opposite gender. Conversely, those students who have gone through a mixed education system are better at communicating with their opposite sex, and they are more likely to understand each other at later stages of life.
Firstly, confidence-related problems are very common in students who have not been educated in mixed schools. When they are given an opportunity to talk with their peers, they are not able to communicate easily. The lack of interaction in a segregated environment limits their ability to interact in a mixed environment. That lack of ability to communicate is translated into their demeanour, and they are perceived as underconfident. Moreover, separately schooled students have prejudice against each other. The alienation from the opposite sex at a young age makes them believe in stereotypes that are not true. For example, the boys who have been taught in all-boys schools think that girls are less intelligent, and the girls that have gone through uni-sex education deem boys as ruthless.
On the other hand, mixed schooling helps the students to be better at communication. Since childhood, they have been given the opportunity to communicate. These children learn the social cues of the opposite gender much better; thus, communication with the opposite gender does not bother them. Additionally, these students have an improved ability to understand their counterparts because they have spent a major part of their childhood with people of the opposite sex. They do not divide themselves into the division of sexes but deal as fellow human beings.
In conclusion, single sex schools should not be seen as beneficial due to numerous disadvantages of uni-sex schooling, such as problems with confidence and enmity for each other. Meanwhile, mix education provides students that are better rehearsed to communicate and understand eachother.
