An increasing number of people have begun researching their own families and heritage. One of the reasons that might have led to this exploration is curiosity. While this might seem like a positive trend, it also carries its drawbacks.
On the one hand, the majority of people, at some point, are interested to learn about their ancestors and possibly what they have contributed to society. Grandparents or parents serve as a great tool to fill that curiosity. Through them, we realize how different lives were in the past and how much they sacrificed for us to be in our current position. Furthermore, receiving information about their roots, where they came from, and visiting them fuels our curiosity even further. Even though we do not know them or see them, it gives us a moment of gratitude and appreciation because they are the reason we are here today.
On the other hand, not all ancestors are known for the good. Some families have dark histories that often parents do not like to bring up, but this silence fuels their children’s curiosity to know the reason why. In order for them to fulfill this inquiry, they will do a DNA ancestry test, using the results as the first clue for Google research. The answers they receive from Google research often disappoint them and make them despise their family, which is why they realize their parents never bring up family history onto the table.
In conclusion, family history and heritage may sound intriguing to most people, and the results they want to hear about them may vary. Either they appreciate them or despise them.
