In the comtemporary society, prisons are fullfilled and cost sums of money to maintain. However, crimes are prone to return to prisons after a short period of time. There has been a controversy among people that offenders should be penalized or rehabilitated and the role of prisons. In this essay I genuinely take a neutral stand to discuss both issues.
On the one hand, there are compelling reasons that prisons plays an important role for human’s societies. Firstly, prisons are the place that governments can easily manage lawbreakers. When they are sent to the jails, they will be isolated from outer world. Thus, it improves security for citizens so that the societies can remain stable. Secondly, imprisioning crimes is regarded as a punishment. It depends on the level of offense behaviors. Vietnamese law can examplify as a example. If a person kill someone that planned before, the criminal will receive a death penalty.
On the other hand, there are abundant reasons support the idea that the gorvernments should combine between rehabilitation and punishment. There are many kinds of lawbreakers who not intentionally do illegal activities. Some criminals are suffered from psycho problems for a long period of time. Therefore, they should be cured and rehabilitated by experts who domained in psychology. However, some prisoners who tend to against managers must be receive a severe penalty. For instance, when they break the rules of prisons, they have to be fined in order to maintain disclipline.
In conclusions, jails serve a significant role to public security in most of countries. Nevertheless, rehabilitation or punishing offenders needs combining by the prison managers so that criminals can realize the fault and be released as soon as possible.
