There is no denying that globalization is now a fact of life. Some would say is the main reason why societies are experiencing a loss of cultural sense, old traditional skills and inevitably, forgetting their ancestors way of living. This loss of cultural identity, which has recently been pointed out by experts, may have dangerous short-term consequences. There are a number of solutions that can be implemented to prevent the dissapearence of these traditions and therefore, preserve every culture worldwide.
Firstly and covering the main issue, minority languages are dissapearing as English start to be spoken worldwide due to economic and social necessities. To illustrate the problem, as a language is less used, studied or read, the knowledge that it comes with is slowly washed off. For example, traditional medicine or even oral history is dependent on the speakers that use these languages day-to-day, as they are not usually written in books or even translated. Moreover, this cultural homogeneization can lead to a lack of differentiation meaning that cities, people, streets, clothes, start to look really similar. Traditional costumes, old dances even recipees, are being forgotten as the population migrates to search for better opportunities and accommodates to the big cities routines.
There are two promising solutions which have been analysed recently. The first one is based on improving school education and explaining cultural traditions at young ages. In order to conserve this knowledge from one generation to another, children need to learn and understand their own roots as early as they start to understand the world. The second one is improving live conditions of small civilizations to avoid migration to the big nations. By promoting this, inhabitants will be less likely to abandon their countries.
In conclussion, regardless of the reality we live in where globalization is controlling society, an effective analysis of the cuases that drive migration and giving importante to cultural teaching can really tackle the issue and should hopefully prevent erosion of cultural heritage.
