In contemporary society, upbringing children is a mutual responsibility of the two parents. Although it is claimed that it is the mother’s role to take care of youngsters in several traditional communities, other civilized individuals content that it is a shared mission. I believe the latter contention is more logical. In this essay, I will elucidate the reasons behind my strong endorsement of the second proposition.
On the one hand, mothers are the source of safety and security of their children; however, they cannot do without the fathers’ pivotal presence. In other words, fathers are the role model of their offsprings, thus children learn many values by imitating their fathers and shadowing them. Therefore, it is imperative for fathers to understand their substantial part in raising their children. A research study conducted in Japan, showed that orphans displayed aggressive behavior twice as compared to children having their fathers around, is a salient example.
On the other hand, bringing up a child is not an easy deed, hence requiring contribution from both parents. To elaborate, mothers are more likely to cover their children with love and care, whereas discipline and rules should be taught from the paternal side. Thereby, it is evident that both roles are crucial and without any of them children will be liable to misconduct or childhood traumas. A pertinent example in this context is an article, published in one of the Chinese newspapers, has acknowledged that childhood traumas were spotted in more than a quarter of children being raised by a single parent.
In conclusion, upbringing a child in an intricate process that requires both maternal and paternal contributions. Otherwise, several detrimental consequences will take place, hindering youngsters from living a normal, peaceful life.
