Nowadays, with the rapid development of technology and science, keyboards are being used more frequently. Such a fact leads impressionable people to generate the opinion that it is unnecessary to teach children the skill of handwriting. However, this statement suffers from both logical and factual errors that need to be considered meticulously. As far as cultural protection and social advance are concerned, I strongly disagree with this opinion.
First and foremost, handwriting is an irreplaceable method of inheriting human civilization. Specifically, character is an important part of a nation’s traditional culture. Take the case of Chinese calligraphy, which experiences thousands years of progress, exhibiting powerful life force. Without the inheritance of handwriting, Chinese calligraphy can’t become so popular in the world wide and Chinese culture can’t be as splendid as it is today.
Equally important is teaching children the skill of handwriting can avoid social degeneration. The development of modern technology is a double-eged sword. When we enjoy the convenience that keyboards bring, we should aware that we are getting lazier and the applience of technology is deeper. Learn the skill of handwriting can help us keep the basic ability of being a human.
Nevertheless, some people claim that use the keyboard to text characters can improve the speed and accuracy rate. Admittedly, keyboard can be a powerful tool in some particular occasions like formal sessions. However, all keyboards need electricity as power which means keyboards can be uneffective for the lack of power.
Considering the aforementioned factors, I maintain that handwriting is such a significant part of human culture and modern society that can’t be abandoned.
