Band 5: In most countries, young people form a large proportion of those who are unemployed. Why is this the case, and what can be done to solve the problem? One of the main problems many governments currently facing is that jobless rates among young people are growing rapidly. The statistics show that long-term unemployment, especially at younger age, may lead to depression, crime and even addictions to drugs, smoking and alcohol. In this essay I’m going to discuss what are 3 main causes behind this problem, and what should be done in order to solve it.

Firstly, schools and universities methodology is mostly based on theory rather then practice. As the result when graduates start to work they feel confused and often don’t get hired by the companies. To solve this issue learning programs should involve training courses as well as internships. Volunteering might likewise be beneficial. With this improvements students will be able to make use of their theoretical knowledge and get used to workspaces.

The second reason is technology developments which nowadays most companies aware of and use in their projects. However, universities have the tendency to not keep pace with new technologies and innovations. Therefore, university leavers are often not equipped with the right skills and awareness to be hired. Government should have the power to impose newest technologies into learning systems with the aim of improving young people’s software skills. Additionally, artificial intelligence may be studied as well.

The final reason is the priorities. For instance, if the Polish company had a choice between hiring a Polish guy or foreign one, they would choose a native one without any doubt. This situation is repeating almost everywhere so international students have problems with finding a job which as the result leads to unemployment for unknown period of time. The obvious solution is for companies to give more chances to non-native workers.

In conclusion, governments should adopt a new approach for educational system so as to decrease the unemployment rates, because young people is the future of the country and they may be given more opportunities.
