In recent days, recruiters have been looking for employees who have completed a formal education rather than skills like life experience or personal qualities. Personally, in my opinion, that is a positive development.
The reason why employees with formal degrees are more sought after is because their degrees show the knowledge of students. To receive degrees, students have to show that they have a sufficient understanding of matters related to their fields by completing assignments, giving exams to test their knowledge, and participating in practical training related to their fields. This ensures that the students have an in-depth understanding of the field related to the companies they will work at. In comparison, people with life experience and personal qualities lack the understanding of many of the workings of the companies they work at. As such, employers have to spend additional time training these employees. Employers feel that resources could be better spent on other tasks if they didn’t have to train these people. As such, employers show a reluctance to employ them.
This development provides many benefits to society as a whole because people are more motivated to get higher education so that they can get better offers for jobs. This as a whole helps to improve the literacy rate in society, as there will be more well-informed and educated members of society as a whole.
As such, in conclusion, recruiters are looking for academic qualifications in workers, as it shows that they are sufficiently trained at universities. I think employers emphasizing education over life skills is beneficial to both young people and society as a whole.
