The most noticeable impact of contemporary life on parental role can be seen mainly in terms of child-rearing and the normative expectations for parents. One of the most significant effects would be the increase in dual-income households, which enable parents to stabilize their family budget. This was not the case in the past, which only the father held responsibility mother used to take responsibility to earn money, while mother’s duty was to take care of children. Secondly, traditional gender roles based on a patriarchal family structure no longer apply to families. In other words, mothers are no longer seen as an obligatory part of female which should be responsible for household chores and caring for children, but now these obligations are being shifted from mothers to fathers, with the emergence of the matriarchal family structure.

Most families had difficulty prioritizing their children with better child-caring centers such as kindergarten and preschool due to lack of their finances in the past. These days, however, such important experiences know no boundaries: parents can supply their children with essential necessities for their child development because of dual income households. Moreover, having a mother who has a career can have a positive impact on the self-confidence of a female child, mothers could be role model for their daughters.
On the other hand, the effects of modern life in family could be negative in some respects. Firstly, as both mothers and fathers have a job, they would probably have less time to spend with their children. This often results in losing social bonds between parents and children. Secondly, women working instead of men can lead to the loss of respect for men in the family by diminishing their masculinity.
In conclusion, modern life has revolutionized the role of parents in family, but not all of the outcomes of this revolution have been positive.
