The last few decades have seen a dramatic change in fashion sense among the younger generation, due to enhancement of social media platforms and cultural diversity. Nowadays, there has been a significant growth in the demand for used garments among youths. From my perspective, it is a beneficial development.
To commence with the prime reason, it is often noticeable that the latest fashion trends hardly stay for only a few months, and young individuals prefer to keep up with those trends without investing a huge amount of money on purchasing new clothes every time. In other words, if a student is able to expend their funds wisely, then they are likely to live a balanced life as old clothes are far more affordable than newer ones. Moreover, in recent times, most teenagers have become environmentally conscious after observing the effects of rising pollution rates over the past years. As a result, they mostly prefer to wear second-hand clothes rather than brand-new garments.
In my opinion, the advantages of using old clothes exceed the drawbacks, as it enhances the recycling rate of clothing items for an extended period of time, by allowing people of different shapes to share their unfit dresses with others. Furthermore, the raw materials which are required to produce new clothes, such as cellulose, ink, water, can be used for other purposes. To elaborate, there are several common ingredients which are crucial not only for the textile industry but also for the production of paper and plywood, and must be preserved for our future generations. Thus, using used-clothes as much as possible is beneficial for our environment.
To encapsulate, there are various causes, such as financial limitations and the eco-friendly lifestyle of younger people, behind the fact that teenagers have been looking more and more for previously-owned garments, and this tendency is beneficial for the global climate, as it fosters recycling and reduces the usage of raw elements for the cloth industry.
