Nowadays, the question of the increasing popularity of second-hand garments has become a subject of much debate. In my view, such outfits are currently widespread due to the fact that they are both affordable for people with low income and may offer a range of clothing items that are inaccessible in traditional clothes shops. From my perspective , it is a positive advancement as it leads to social equality. Besides, it can change people’s lives for the better as they can earn additional money by selling unnecessary clothes.
The primary reason for my opinion is that I am convinced that residents from around the world should have equal rights, regardless of their social status. In other words, if one does not have the opportunity to buy brand-new clothes, it does not mean that they do not deserve to be well-dressed. Therefore, I firmly believe that the authorities should encourage the population to open retail outlets because it can bring positive impacts not only from the human element, but also from an economic standpoint, as these shops pay taxes. For instance, recent research has revealed that the majority of teenagers in African countries purchase clothes in second-hand stores, creating a connective tissue: sellers make some money and pay taxes, directly influencing the economy, while customers can get clothes for a reasonable price. This demonstrates that the growing number of second-hand buyers plays a crucial role in the economy and allows poor people to cater for their needs.
Furthermore, second-hand shops can help adolescents who seek clothes that have gone out of fashion to express their individuality. As a rule, traditional shopping centres stop selling the elements of garments when they become obsolete, making people look for another marketplace to acquire them. This issue is especially in demand among younger generations who follow hippie or punk styles, so second-hand shops are indispensable for them. For example, according to a recent BBC article, there are plenty of youngsters in the USA, who stick to old-fashioned styles as they want to show off their exceptionalism and boost their self-esteem. Thus, it makes second-hand shops crucial and irreplaceable for them. This proves that second-hand shopping is vital for some teenagers, not to mention the fact that it is sometimes more budget-friendly than traditional clothing shopping.
In conclusion, although cutting-edge shopping malls may boast their extremely high quality of goods incorporating garments, second-hand shops are the best choice for teenagers who search for good prices or clothing items inaccessible in usual shopping malls. Hence, I strongly believe that this development is positive and the governments should promote this idea as it is beneficial for the economy as well.
