Today, rising child obesity rates have become a major problem in some countries, due to over-consumption of junk food. It is often argued that forbidding fast food from school cafeterias can be the best solution to overcome this issue. I completely agree with this opinion, and the following essay will support this viewpoint by proving why fast food should be banned from school canteens.
First of all, I believe that children spend more than half of their daytime at school, which gives them easy access to the school canteen. In other words, pupils can decide what they eat during school time, without their parents’ awareness. For example, children who board at school hostels and who stay after school time on school premises for extra-curricular activities, have to buy almost all their meals from the school canteen. So, removing fast food from cafeterias can reduce daily intake of high-fat and high-sugar.
Moreover, a healthy diet improves not only physical health but also mental health, which leads to concentration on academics. Students who eat balanced meals are more likely to perform well in the classroom and in sports, making their school life a more successful one. For instance, overweight children may find it difficult to move their bodies, and they don’t show interest in participating in sports and athletics. Also, they easily get tired, and as a result, they can’t focus on studies with a clear mind.
To conclude, I strongly believe that avoiding the sale of fast food in schools is a great way of reducing child obesity significantly, because it minimizes easy access to unhealthy food, and a balanced diet makes children physically and mentally strong, enabling them to perform better at studies.
