Band 6+: In some countries, an increased number of children are overweight or obese as a result of eating too much fast food. Banning fast food from school canteens is the best way to fight this problem. To what extent agree or disagree with the statement

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Today, rising child obesity rates have become a major problem in some countries, due to over-consumption of junk food. It is often argued that forbidding fast food from school cafeterias can be the best solution to overcome this issue. I completely agree with this opinion and the following essay will support this viewpoint by proving why fast food should be banned from school canteen.

First of all, I believe that children spent more than half of their daytime at school, which gives them easy access to the school canteen. In other words, pupils can decide what they eat during the school time, without their parents’ awareness. For example, children who boarded at school hostels and who stay after school time at school premises for extra-curricular activities, have to buy almost all their meals from school canteen. So removing fast food from cafeterias can reduce daily intake of high-fat and high-sugar.

Moreover, a healthy diet improves not only physical health but also mental health which leads to concentration on academics. Students who eat balanced meals are more likely to perform well in classroom and sports, making their school life more successful one. For instance, overweigh children may find it difficult to move their bodies and they don’t show interest in participating sports and athletics. Also they easily get tired, as a result they can’t focus on studies with a clear mind.

To conclude, I strongly believe that avoiding the sale of fast food in schools is the great way of reducing child obesity significantly, because it minimizes the easy access for unhealthy food, and a balanced diet make physically and mentally strong children who can perform better at studies.
