Today’s adults of both genders tend to delay having children until later in life. This is due to their motivation to pursue higher education and professional success and in my opinion, this development has a detrimental effect on society and family life.
Many people place greater importance on career success and higher education than on having a family. Some of them are aware that studying when one is young is much simpler than when one is older and the aging process impacts one’s memory and cognitive abilities. They enroll in other study programs after leaving school, such as postgraduate study courses or language classes, to continue their education for as long as possible. As a result, youth is a good time for trial and error, many young people choose to work long hours, take on new responsibilities, or even change jobs to gain work experience and advance in their careers. They might therefore be too preoccupied to be expecting, let alone care for their newborn.
However, having children so late in life may have several negative effects on families as well as society. In terms of social aspects, a nation where people put off having children is likely to experience an aging population in the future due to fewer births each year. When the majority of workers are elderly people who are unable to perform physically demanding jobs like those on construction sites, there may eventually be a shortage of labor. In terms of families, those without children are less motivated to stay married than those who have children.
In conclusion, many youngsters today put studying and working ahead of having children early, but this tendency has serious negative effects on society as a whole and each family in particular.
