A long time ago, people became parents at a young age. Unfortunately, this trend has changed in the modern world, with people having babies at a more mature age in certain countries for various reasons.
At least two important factors explain why this development has occurred. Firstly, people’s needs are more complicated now compared to the past. Many significantly prioritize their career paths and aim for a more stable future. Although this requires more time and sacrifice, parents always want a better life for their children. Secondly, the medical sector has improved exponentially; therefore, there is no need to have a baby in one’s twenties. For instance, cesarean surgeries, IVF facilities, egg and sperm freezing, and many other technologies are now available. As a result, young couples can freeze their eggs and sperm and then have a baby when they are ready.
In my view, becoming parents at a later age clearly affects families and society. It is true that more mature mothers and fathers are better able to manage challenges without panicking compared to younger parents. This leads to less domestic violence and creates a welcoming environment for the newborn child. Consequently, family bonds are stronger, and the child is raised in a safe and healthy environment. In fact, for society, this can result in mentally balanced and strong personalities. However, in some developing countries where elderly care is not provided, the burden falls on the children. If parents are too old while their children are still studying, it becomes more difficult to manage both situations. Some individuals may even arrange cheaper elder homes for their parents, which can result in unhealthy conditions for the elderly and negative consequences for society.
In conclusion, people tend to have children later in life nowadays. There are clear reasons for this, and it has specific effects on society and family life.
