The increasing intrusiveness of social media has made many individuals believe that the invasion of privacy is an integral part of celebrity and that famous people should regard it with acceptance. While there are some valid grounds for this argument, I would contend that celebrities should be entitled to have their personal lives.
Granted, advocates of normalizing invasion of privacy often argue that fame will always come at the expense of other factors. By the dictates of natural laws, as famous people are endowed with substantial privilege thanks to this advantage, they should also sacrifice something, which is, in this case, their privacy. For instance, high-profile public figures often receive lucrative deals and accolades from the community due to the fact that they are highly visible and that the public is keen on their lives. In this light, media attention, albeit somewhat intrusive, can be considered a component of the fame package.
Nevertheless, despite these justifications, I firmly believe that there exists a threshold that public interests should not transcend. This is because everyone, not except for celebrities, deserves to have their own lives and be respected. As famous people are also components of a larger society, ensuring their well-being could foster a positive and inclusive society, in which every individual is treated right. Otherwise, the value of privacy would be degraded in the public eye, ultimately triggering a toxic culture. Apart from this, excessive scrutinization from the public could put celebrities in distress and result in tragic consequences. We have witnessed several cases in which public figures commit suicide due to the strenuous pressure from the public.
To conclude, while it is an inherent nature of celebrity to capture public attention, this, to an excessive degree, could bring more harm than good. Thus, it is crucial to stay moderate and respectful.
