Band 9: In some countries, celebrities complain about the way the media publicizes their private lives. Some people say that they should accept it as part of their fame. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In the modern era, the private lives of celebrities are frequently scrutinized and exposed by the media. While some argue that this is an inevitable consequence of fame, I strongly believe that public figures are entitled to the same right to privacy as any other individual.

On the one hand, many people contend that disclosing personal information is part of a celebrity’s image and reputation. Actors, musicians, and athletes often share aspects of their daily lives on social media, which helps them attract a larger audience and increase their popularity. This constant visibility can open doors to lucrative opportunities such as endorsements and collaborations. From this perspective, tolerating media intrusion may be perceived as an unavoidable trade-off for professional success.

On the other hand, I firmly disagree with this justification. Celebrities are, first and foremost, human beings who deserve to enjoy their fundamental rights, including privacy. Excessive intrusion by the press often leads to severe consequences such as anxiety, depression, and strained family relationships. If left unchecked, these issues may ultimately undermine their professional performance. Furthermore, the notion that harassment and rumors are a “natural” aspect of fame is deeply flawed. Such exposure does not enhance their careers but instead reduces them to objects of public consumption, which is both unethical and harmful.

In conclusion, although constant media attention can sometimes boost a celebrity’s visibility, I believe that their personal lives must be respected. Rather than exploiting their privacy for profit and sensationalism, the media should focus on celebrating their genuine achievements and contributions to society.
