In some countries’ legislation, companies’ rejection of job candidates due to their age is considered illegal. I firmly believe this development has positive impacts on the economy of both the country and the company itself, helping to reduce the unemployment rates and to develop with more experienced workers.
The first reason why organizations should not have age discrimination when rejecting applicants is that this legislation may play an important role in reducing the unemployment rate. When it is illegal for companies to reject them, not only young people but also older citizens will have the possibility of getting accepted to a job as long as they can handle it. For example, in Japan where the average age of the population is relatively old, if employers cannot be selective about candidates’ ages, the problem of unemployment may be solved effectively.
Secondly, the companies also might benefit from this piece of law, having more experienced employees. In fields such as health care, education, and business, old workers who are at the age of retiring tend to be highly experienced and have great knowledge about their field. This means those old staff can be better at working with customers or perform more efficiently than young employees. For instance, in Uzbekistan’s health care, only when doctors are in their forties or fifties, are they perceived as knowledgeable and believed to be able to treat patients with less difficulty.
In conclusion, companies in some countries cannot legally reject job applicants for their age. I think of this development positively, considering that it can help the government to deal with unemployment effectively and can be beneficial for companies to thrive with the help of more experienced employees.
