Accessibility to food has been available worldwide in today’s modern society due to the enhancement of global transportation. From my perspective, while there are potential disadvantages to this phenomenon, I am more inclined towards the view that it is favourable for several compelling reasons.
The primary drawback that critics mention concerning the problem is the loss of cultural authenticity, specialty food in particular. To elaborate further, when distinctive cuisines of an area are intergrated into other areas, nutritient choices of customers will certainly increased subsequently. In extreme cases, when imported dishes are more consumed, sellers and businesses will exhibit a tendency to obtain the recipes of such foods, and even alter to a sufficient extend for them to be suitable for the general local taste. This eliminates not only the uniqueness, but also the orginal flavor of such specialties, which potentially holds specific meanings behind.
However, there are two significant advantages that can sway public opinion in favor of this trend. The first positive outcome is the economic augmentation. To explain, importing or exporting food among diverse countries stimulates international trade, which subsequently generates more incomes from foreign currency. Not to mention that, the availability of cuisine all around the world can attract tourists, as it can be a significant draw for travelers who seek to experience different culinary traditions and indulge in authentic international flavors during their visit. As a result, tourism will be developed, contributing to overall economic growth. Secondly, this approach helps promote national images on a global scale. For instance, the process of manufacturing dishes can reveal virtues of a nation’ citizens, or the table manner while enjoying such dishes can showcase how pivotal they consider their diet. Consequently, the national identity will be widely recognised, compensating for the disadvantage mention earlier.
In conclusion, despite the potential challenges related to cultural saturation, with two main merits towards national economy and reputation, I believe that the benefits of this situation can overshadow its demerits.
