Band 5+: In some countries, more and more shops are open longer hours every day. What are positive and negative effects of this ?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In many countries, there are a lot of shops decide to open more hours a day. While there are some benefits of opening longer hours everyday, I would argue that its negative effects outweigh its positive effects.

On the one hand, many shop owners believe that opening longer hours can bring many benefits. Firstly, it may help these shop maximize their profits. Opening overtime means they have more opportunities and time to sale their products to customers. Therefore, these shops can increase their income and have enough money to remain operations. Additionally, the longer time the shops open, the more convenient the customers go shopping. By opening more hours a day, these shops can sale their products to a group of people who are overtime workers. As a result, these shop can attract more customers and be a good choice for the busy ones.

On the other hand, while there are several people have strong opinion on opening shops longer hours can be more beneficial, I would argue that its disadvantages are more significant. First of all, it can bring many negative effects to shops assistants. If shops are open longer hours, staff must work longer hours no matter how well they are. Therefore, they can easily have some physical and mental health problems such as get tired and feel stressful. Subsequently, shop owners have to spend more money to open more longer hours everyday. Should shops be open longer hours, the owners of these shop need to pay more for staff and other bills like water bills and electricity bills. Accordingly, these mounts of money can be financial burdens of shop owners.

In conclusion, more and more shops in many countries are open longer hours a day. While it bring some positive effects such as increasing profit and convenience, I would argue that its negative effects like physical and mental health problems of staff and spending more money are more noticed.
