In recent times, there has been a growing phenomenon that children are educated at home instead of school environment. While there are undeniable benefits, this essay will argue that the drawbacks are far more significant.
On the one hand, there are several advantages that can be obtained from choosing education at home for children. One major benefit is that it can foster concentration and discipline, meaning that young people have a chance to solely pay attention to their lectures without distracting by external noise. With intense focus, they can get academic results with flying colors. Furthermore, learning at home can reduce the development of school violence which is a major concern in recent times. For example, some teenagers were teased by their friends leading to mental health issues such as depression or anxiety. As a consequence, children feel afraid of going to school and bored with classes.
On the other hand, I’m convinced that the aforementioned benefits are insignificant when compared to the notable drawbacks of taking a home education replaced with a school curriculum. One of these is the potential for isolation from community and circle society, resulting in being solitary and bored. Making friends at the same ages allows students to easily ask for help and support about various aspects of daily life not only study troubles. Hence, it can pave the way for better learning outcomes by having more motivation and inspiration. Another concern is that accepting the education curriculum at home can hinder the growth of soft skills which play a vital part nowadays. The school environment offers pupils the chance to engage in clubs, work in a team, and do presentations. Thanks to this, young people have more potential work opportunities and future career prospects.
In conclusion, despite certain benefits that choosing homeschooling can bring about including intense concentration and preventing school violence, I would contend that the disadvantages are far more pronounced.
