Recently, there are more parents choosing to educate their children at home instead of sending them to traditional schools. While this has admittedly certain benefits, I would argue that the drawbacks are far more pronounced.
On the one hand, the advantages of homeschooling such as individualized curriculums and a safe learning environment. Firstly, parents can construct the lesson, which is an adaption for their children and make children’s learning more effective. Therefore, learners can easily keep track of the knowledge within their own pace and fulfill their deficiency. Secondly, providing a flexible schedule helps children balance their study and their family. In fact, when children join homeschooling, it allows them to spend more time with family. Additionally, spending more time together can strengthen family relationships and create shared learning experiences. Thus, it can make children’s studies more effective and progress.
On the other hand, there are several disadvantages of homeschooling that it can limit children without the necessary skills. Firstly, children might lack social interactions. For example, children who participate in homeschooling, it means that they do not have opportunities to meet, collaborate, and interact with their peers, which can take a toll on their social skills such as communication and teamwork skills. As a result, they can not be a comprehensive child. Second, children’s academic performance is influenced due to the lack of professional education. For instance, not all parents do not have abilities to teach their children because they have never taken part in other education courses before. In addition, parents are not authorized to issue diplomas as an educational ministry. Therefore, they can hinder children’s learning experience and restrict them from pursuing a successful career or higher education such as a master’s degree.
In conclusion, while I acknowledge that home teaching can be beneficial, I still believe that it brings more negative effects on the development of children’s mental performance.
