The number of obese people is significantly increasing in some countries. This can be attributed to the type of the food consumed in these regions. Planning proper fundamental changes should be implemented in order to limit the progression of this issue.
The obesity level in some cities increased abruptly in the last few decades. According to the latest research by the ADA (American Diabetes Association), 1 out of 5 US citizens is obese, and 1 out of 20 is at risk of being obese and prone to suffer from subsequent diseases like diabetes and hypertension. The research linked these findings to a probable cause which is people’s uprising preference of fast food chains over the regular meals because they are easier to get and relatively cheaper than other foods than contain valuable nutrients. The problem with fast food is not only is it high in calories, but it also can’t fulfill individuals’ hunger. Consequently, this lead to craving more food which increase the overall caloric intake during the day.
A way to tackle this problem, was the government’s increased awareness regarding the drastic drawbacks of relying on junk food as a primary source of nutrients. A lot of campaigns are now suggesting limiting the consumption of fast food to once per month. Moreover, promoting the concept of working out regularly can be considered as an alternative approach to help directing people to more healthy lifestyle.
In conclusion, while the prevalence of obese people is prevailing, changes to both lifestyle and diet should be considered in order to help in limiting this problem that may compromise individual’s general health.
