Band 4+: In some countries, the role of a mother differs in some ways from the role of a father. Why do you think these differences exist? How might parental roles develop in the future?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In society, it has a circumstance of different function between mother and father and I believe that the reasons why exist is relative to physical factor and social cognition. However, I think the situation of parental roles may trend to more equal.

The toddlers usually take care by female, it seems to be a law in our community. Female and male play different role in family, with woman as housewife and men as worker. Therefore, the laws may be influenced by physical factor and social cognition. In terms of physical factor, we cannot defend the truth of distinguishing in body function between two genders. One of the function in female body is breastfeeding when they are pregnancy, it is a nurture process for female mammals. In contrast, there are no any physical features which can provide food to baby in a man, it represents that the only function of man is working to provide a quality life for his family. On the other hand, it has a stereotype in some counties, especially in the developing country. The shortcoming of educational system and ailing economy affect the development of gender roles, which hinder the opportunity of work in female. For instance, most India’s woman lack education which result in they losing working capability, while women were taught that taking care family is their only respectability.

Following by the advantage of technology and globalization, I believe the development of parental roles will become to equal status in future and it could be affected by mature education system and the improvement of politics. While the concern of gender equality is emphasized through school and college, the role of gender will not be defined anymore. Additionally, if government implement some family-friendly policies, such as parental leave and flexible work, which can ameliorate the pressure for new parents.

In conclusion, physical factor and society may leading the difference role in two generates, but it can improve by education and politics that become to equal status between man and woman in future.
