Band 5+: In some countries the use of bicycle is decreasing as people prefer other means of transport. Why is this happening? What can be done to encourage the public to use bicycle more

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Today even more the uses of bicycles is in a progressive decline , and that is because people would rather choose public transport methods which are more fast, practical and safe. Although the use of bicycles is an ecological choice and improves our physical health, so a lot can be done to foster and promote the usage of bicycles . This can be achieved through constant and widespread campaigns helped by government participation.

In terms why the use of this means of transport are decreasing, it is mainly related with the technological innovations which have insured others way of more advantageous transportation. People tend to choose means which are more time-effective (as nowadays we rush to catch everything in the right time) especially where it comes for long distant locations. Also it is crucial to mention that other PT means such as trains, underground transport is more unexposed to accidents and usually are not related with human driving skills and that’s due to automaton which of course makes the probability of driver-mistakes nearly inconsiderable.

However, in terms of what can be done to reverse this trend , I strongly believe that with the right policies and campaigns a lot can be changed. In one hand , campaigns should productively inform people for the ecological effects of the bicycle usage , in time when we are in warning situation related to global changes. Additionally to that , there should be the same crucial importance related to health effectiveness that bicycle use can give to all of us. This correlated with extra fees on other means of PT can give us a wanted trend .

In conclusion, the decline of the use of bicycles can be strongly associated with the novel technology which provide more practical and productive means of transport. Whereas the encouragement of public to use bicycles more can be done with a serious determination of campaigns to inform people properly and with the engage of government institutions , which with their policies can support bicycles users.
