In contemporary society, the burgeoning growth of the Internet has allowed individuals to choose distance learning or remote working instead of traditional methods. From my stance, the advantages of online learning and working, such as reduced expenses and wider accessibility, outweigh their drawbacks, namely communication barriers and technical problems.
On the one hand, remote education and online working may come at the expense of effective communication and involve undesirable technical errors. When learning or working at home, students and workers can only discuss and exchange ideas with their peers via a digital screen, which may not fully convey the real-life emotions and express people’s body language. Consequently, misunderstandings between these individuals may occur, reducing productivity while learning or working. Additionally, technical faults, namely internet disconnection, low-quality images, or hardware malfunctions, may occur during online studying and working. This may hinder students or employees from accessing their online meeting platforms, thereby missing out on important lessons or meetings.
Nonetheless, remote education and teleworking may be a more cost-effective and convenient option for people than traditional methods. If one chooses to study or work at home, they can save a great amount of commuting expenses and dedicate more time to other essential activities. Moreover, online learning students have better access to a wide array of curricula and lessons from various educators all over the globe based on their needs and preferences. Likewise, teleworking employees can apply to different institutions and companies that are suitable to their abilities.
In conclusion, while examining the disadvantages of distance education and telecommuting, such as ineffective communication and technical flaws, I assume that their benefits of reduced costs and accessibility overshadow the drawbacks.
