15 years ago it was unheard of to go to the supermarket in Azerbaijan and buy cherry tomatoes or avocados or God forbid mangoes. However with globalisation food transportation has become possible and these products are here. Now the question arises: is this a good thing? As far as I am concerned, the benefits of food transportation completely outweigh the negative.
The main advantage of this development is the access to a wide variety of food from all over the world. By this I mean, the choices are more and now people can diversify their diets. In addition, this idea has a positive impact on both the exporting and importing country’s economy. That is, the country will acquire new trade allies and build new international relations, thus, straightening its global position. New products also will open new positions as more people are needed to sell more food. Therefore, employment levels will rise.
Those opposed to this state that the quality of food is spoiled while transportation. Transportation of food requires specific conditions for each type of food. However, the rules are not usually followed, negatively impacting people’s health. Additionally, food export plays negative has a detrimental effect on the environment. No matter which transport is used, either ground or ocean will be polluted.
In conclusion, in my opinion, food transportation has much more advantages than disadvantages. However, governments must also take into account negative influences.
