Band 7+: In some parts of the world, people are living to an older age than they used to. Some people say that this causes problems but others say that an ageing population has advantages for business, for government and for society in general. Discuss both views and give your own option

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is known that people in many countries are now living longer than in the past. Some people say that the increasing number of elderly people can lead to different problems, while others believe that it is beneficial for society. In my view, the benefits of increasing life expectancy outweigh the disadvantages.

On the one hand, the rising number of people may likely become a reason for overpopulation. If there are many people living in one city, the government will have to take more area for building living spaces. For instance, the population in the capital of my country almost doubled in the last 20 years, and a huge number of tall buildings were constructed. As a result, the state budget can suffer from increased spending.

On the other hand, such increases can provide a large workforce. Elderly people often do a lot of vital work like nursing or nannying. In our time, young people mostly choose well-paid professions, and the government can face a lack of household specialists. Therefore, elderly people can help to cope with these problems. Additionally, aging people always have great life experience, and they can share it with young people. For example, most teachers at schools are older than 50. They give students all their knowledge and teach them to learn from their mistakes. In addition, an aging population shows the quality of life in a particular country because sometimes it can be challenging to survive in bad conditions.

In conclusion, it is better when a country maintains people’s lives and allows them to live to an old age. Furthermore, the older generation always helps to pass on different skills. Therefore, I believe that the advantages definitely outweigh the negatives.
