In this era of globalization, expanding trade and cultural exchanges between countries have sparked a lively debate with divergent opinions. Some people believe that this intersection will lead to the erosion of cultural identity, while others argue that it can positively impact developing countries. In this essay, I will examine opinions from both perspectives before formulating my own conclusion on the topic.
Recently, the adoption and integration of cultural elements from other countries during exchanges have become widespread, presenting significant challenges for many nations. In those places, where regulatory oversight is still lax, the unregulated incorporation of foreign cultures can become a significant issue. This not only fails to develop the nation’s own culture but can also lead to the erosion or complete loss of national identity. Each country has its own historical development and cultural heritage, which are characteristics that help the nation possess a unique quality not found elsewhere. Therefore, indiscriminate absorption of foreign culture can result in the loss of the national cultural environment. Conversely, countries that isolated themselves and do not embrace the positive aspects of other cultures risk becoming spiritually impoverished and stagnant in their development. History often shows that such nations face eventual decline.
On the other hand, contrary to the beliefs of many, the process of cultural exchange and assimilation does not necessarily harm indigenous cultures; instead, it enriches and diversifies them. Engaging with other countries should not adhere to outdated standards but should involve in alignment with contemporary progress. Nowadays, citizens of a country can study the history, cultures, and lifestyles of other nations. This helps people understand and appreciate foreign cultures, and allows them to incorporate positive aspects in their own cultures, contributing to the development of their nation. Economically, engaging in international trade can expand business markets. When businesses collaborate with international markets, they can increase their revenue and profits. This, in turn, creates additional job opportunities for many people and contributes to the overall economic growth of the nation.
Commercial and cultural interactions with other nations can stimulate the economy, create job opportunities, and enhance national cultures. Therefore, establishing rational solutions to manage cultural content is necessary, thereby facilitating the advancement of a more prosperous society.
