In several nations, people are increasing living in ‘vertical cities’ – tall apartments which contains residential, commercial, and recreational facilities. It is often contented that this is a sustainable solution to city overpopulation, while some think that it leads to social isolation. I believe that it is a viable solution for urban overcrowding, as it helps to minimize city density and manage population shelter.
I think that trend of living in tall appartments that have various facilities can manage the population density in a sustainable way. This is because high-rise buildings provide many rooms and flats for the people who want to live in the particular city that has very less space left for houses. Similarly, living in tall buildings is more affordable and convinient as there are less houses in city, which are very expensive to afford. Furthermore, a person can do various activities without leaving the apartment, as the apartment itself provides various recreational facilities such as gym, halls for celebrations, and many sports.
Admittedly, Many individuals believe that living in tall apartments can isolate a person from social activities. This is due to not getting out of the apartments which in fact leads to low contibution to societial work and less interaction with neighbours. For instance, a person who always stays in his apartment can suffer from depression due to lack of communication with others and the person will eventually isolate themselves from the society
In conclusion, I think that the upward trend of living in tall apartments can be a sustainable solution for controlling the population density in cities as it provides numerous rooms for people to stay in and also facilitates some recreational center. However, staying in apartments for a long time without interaction with neighbours can have negative impacts such as social isolation.
