Fewer people may form bands or create music in the future due to concerns about their songs being freely downloaded from the internet. In my point of view, I disagree with this perspective, as the internet can serve as an excellent platform for artists and can open up new avenues for generating income.
In fact, many artists have achieved fame appreciation to advancements in technology, including social media, streaming services, and digital distribution platforms. These tools have made it easier for artists to reach global audiences. For example, Ed Sheeran is one such artist whose song ‘Shape of You’ has been streamed over a billion times. This demonstrates that the internet is an effective advertising medium.
Many artists understand that exposure and building an audience are key to long-term success. Additionally, artists can monetize their work through various channels, such as streaming royalties, live performances, merchandise sales, music licensing, teaching, brand partnerships, and crowdfunding. They can also leverage their names and popularity for advertising. Brands often pay substantial sums for artists to promote their products on social media, with statistics showing that well-known artists can earn around a million dollars for a single post. This creates even more income opportunities for them.
In summary, artists should not worry about their music being downloaded from the internet, as there are numerous ways to monetize their work online. However, I believe that internet presents new opportunities for artists to expand their reach, grow their fanbase, and increase their income through both royalties and brand partnerships.
