People believe that the future will experience undoubtedly an increasing number of the elderly and in several nations, this population may be higher than the young. In this essay, i will propose why this phenomenon brings either advantages or disadvantages to the whole world.
On the one hand, older citizens contribute strongly in the growth of service jobs and the decrease in environmental pollution. First and foremost, due to the old age, most of the elderly prefer to get helps from others and ready to pay money for that as the belief of enjoying the last moment of life. As a result, insurance, banking, nutrition and travel can get many benefits from them. Secondly, they have more experience and expertised knowledge for each professions, which can compensate for labor shortages. A prime example is the restaurant chain in Japan where 90% owners are the elderly, especially the “Old man” sponge cake brand called Rikuro’s. Last but not least, the extent of carbon footprint from those in older ages much lower than that of the young. This is because they are keen on saving habit and often make a clear monthly mindlist.
On the other hand, the demand of healthcare system as well as insurance will rise dramatically. To begin, ensuring strength for the old require continous renovation in medical treatment owing to several diseases that only they have such as Alzheimer or osteoporosis. A study from WHO points out that 85% of the elderly in Vietnam having at least two chronic disease that can not recovery. Additionally, the more the old generations, the higher workload the young have to deal with to make money while there is a lack of young workforce. This is because the pension for the elderly is given from the taxes that youngsters paying to the governments. Moreover, extended family often face with arguement and lack of time to take care of their grandparents, which force them to rent a homecare allocated an enormous budget. Therefore, the belief that older people’s living conditions depend on government is wrong since each family have to pay for their own.
In conclusion, the role of the elderly must be seen as a positive of negative trend based on different features of each nations. They offer a growth in opportunities for service jobs and expertised knowledge besides reduce the amount of carbon footprint; however, a development of healthcare system and insurance will be a huge obstacle for both young individuals as well as the government.
