At present, several countries are in the process of developing and promoting domestic tourism among their citizens, and a huge fund is being allocated for this purpose. Thus, it is often predicted that a large number of people will choose to travel locally to spend their holidays rather than going abroad. However, I do not agree with this prediction and I believe that international tourism will certainly be popular in the future as it can introduce new cultures and customs in a cost-effective way.
To begin with, international tourism will be very popular among tourists since it is becoming cheaper and more attractive. In other words, the cost of air travel and hotel accommodation has already started to slash as part of the efforts of tourism development ,and in the future, it is likely to go down further since many nations strive hard to encourage international tourism. Indian travelers, for instance, can fly to Sri Lanka and enjoy their holidays for almost half the price that they need to spend for their trip to a local destination.
The other compelling reason for the expected growth of overseas tourism can be the authentic experience that tourists can get from international tourism. It is possible for international travelers to learn a new culture when they visit a new place. For example, mingling with people in a foreign country will certainly provide them an opportunity to learn about a new culture besides exposing them to different kinds of customs and food styles.
On the other hand, tourists who visit locally are likely to face boredom since local places and practices are already known to them. This means that they either have already read or known about these attractions extensively, and therefore the curiosity to have such visits may not be as high as the international tourism causes.
In conclusion, various factors like less cost and experiencing a different culture will definitely induce people to opt for foreign countries for their holidays, and therefore I completely disagree that more people will choose local holiday destinations
