For the last ten years, global air travel has experienced a massive growth. This following essay will present the reasons for the phenomenon and why it is generally bad.
First and foremost, as air fare is getting cheaper, it is easier for people to travel. Currently, a great number of low cost airlines have appeared in the market. It starts to compete with the already existing carriers, targeting biggest consumers, the on budget travelers. As a result, the competition made a lot of corporations trying to cut some of their services, in return to lower ticket prices. This directly makes air travel becoming more and more accessible to society in general.
Another reason is the growth of individuals’ wages. Statistics prove that in the past decade, there were five times where structurally the government was regulating a 15% increase in minimum salary, while generally inflation rate of each year is only at 2-5%. It means, in general, the public has more buying power than before. This directly made the society’s basic needs more likely to be fulfilled, and there will be more money spent on supplemental necessities, such as buying an air ticket for holiday.
In my personal belief, the growing trend of air travel would be harmful to the environment. An average passenger plane is produced and frees tons of pollution from its fuel to the air. It has a devastating impact on the formation of clouds and bad weather’s condition. Consequently, an increase in the utilization of planes will cause severe impacts to the environment.
To summarize, the growing trend of air travel is happening because its ticket price has become cheaper and society in general is having a pay improvement. Otherwise, I believe that the increase would have demerits to the environment.
