In the past 10 years, global air travel has recorded to have experienced significant increase in usage. Before diving into judging whether this phenomenon is positive or negative, let us look at the multiple reasons why this happens.
Firstly, as living standard rises, the need for vacations also escalates, leading to longer and further travels. For example in Vietnam, before, people would go to their hometowns or other cities for vacation, nowadays it is reported that they are more likely to travel internationally. So while traveling by car was popular in the past, plane travels are being used more often as they are faster and further. However, not only Vietnam experiences this but people from other countries are also choosing to go longer distances for vacations, therefore inducing the increased use of global air travel.
Secondly, working overseas and cross national cooperations are a common thing now in light of globalization. This results in people having to take long work trips between places in addition to working from home. Hence the increased records in plane travel especially from and to industrial zones like New York or Hong Kong. Furthermore, some individuals would prefer using private aircrafts rather than public ones so the rise in air travel is inevitable.
While air travel seems to have considerable advantages for faster and further travels as well as effortless connection for business purposes, it is important to acknowledge that increased air travels have a cascading effect on air pollution. Aircrafts are one of the primary causes which contribute to global warming as they exhaust so much carbon dioxide, furthermore most planes still uses fossil fuels to generate power and the burning of these resources is detrimental to the environment.
In conclusion, the rise in global air travel usage can result from the increased need to travel further and working overseas. While they are an effective transportation, people need to keep in mind that they are polluting the Earth as they use these aircrafts. Therefore I would suggest that people should only travel by plane when there is no other form of commute and decrease the usage of private planes.
