Over the last ten years, the number of flights around the world has grown. This situation has been provoked by different reasons and has an ambiguous meaning. In this essay, I will try to explain my point of view about this issue.
One of the main causes of the increased popularity of air travels is that they have become more affordable and cheaper. You can quickly tap your screen a couple of times, and here is your ticket. Consequently, the number of people using this opportunity to visit new places, friends, and colleagues or to relocate for study or work has risen. In addition, in the current post-pandemic reality, remote job has become very common, which in turn has led to a greater mobility of the employees and the emergence of phenomena such as digital nomadism. These types of workers are constantly moving long distances in short periods of time, and the aircrafts are one of the most frequently used vehicles among them.
In my opinion, this tendency has its own benefits and drawbacks. On the one hand, the opportunity to trip as fast as possible around thousands of cities and countries undoubtedly promotes the building of strong connections between communities and countries and the development of cultural exchanges. The crucial part of the processes for various professionals, such as scientists and artists, is based on the permanent movement among events and institutions around the world. On the other hand, the frequent use of air carriers has triggered serious ecological problems, including noise and air pollution. From this perspective, the freedom to roam turns into an ominous omen of upcoming disasters.
To conclude, it’s clear that airplanes have become a more popular mode of transport. Many people have a need to journey for diverse reasons and have the possibility to do so more than ever. However, from the environmental impact side, such hyperactivity seems excessive and dangerous.
