TToday, the press has a huge impact on the lives of many popular personalities. They try to create a resonance and noise around their reportage, infrequently violating the personal space of the stars. I absolutely disagree with violating privacy and believe it downgrades living standards.
First of all, many celebrities have large influence on their fans, so all their actions are broadcast to a large audience. This makes a huge contribution to the public, which can be both positive and negative. For example, the publicity of a celebrity’s misbehaviour might trigger a society campaign towards better standards. Some celebrities, however, actually promote this type of publicity in a bid to attract more public interest and appreciate more fame, which results in very lucrative endorsement contracts and other professional engagements.
On the other hand, monitoring the personal life of any person is not appropriate. Privacy is one of the foremost canons of our society and violating it is punishable by criminal law. None of us would like if we were taped somewhere at some time or other even in our own home. Also, the constant close attention of the media can cause serious problems and worsen the quality of life of public figures, because they cannot relax for a second. Obsessive paparazzi can break into other people’s homes, set up hidden cameras and wiretaps, and do everything in order to find the information they need.
In conclusion, although there are arguments in favor of the fact that media attention can raise moral standards, increase public interest, and contribute to the career success of celebrities, invasion of privacy is fundamentally wrong. The legal consequences and negative impact on living standards outweigh the potential benefits, making it clear that famous people deserve their right to privacy.
