The number of instances where celebrities have been harassed by the media have increased over the years. Some people think that media celebrities shouldn’t have any privacy. I strongly disagree with this view as celebrities like any other individual deserves a level of privacy in their personal lives.
Celebrities are human beings no different from all of us. They have their own families, individual struggles, and deserves respect for their personal lives. Invasive paparazzi articles can lead to metal health struggles for some public figures; like Britney Spears, she has publicly expressed displeasure to the media as it was causing decline on her well-being. Moreover, being at the center of attention constantly in the public eye can weigh overbearing pressure, highlighting the need for ethical boundaries.
On the other hand, it is true that some argue celebrities choose this lifestyle to advance their careers and benefit from the media attention. While this may hold true regarding their professional lives, it should not come at the expense of giving up your rights of privacy. Fans and the public can appreciate their idol’s work from a safe distance, without prying into their personal relations or routines. Maintaining this balanced space, we can differentiate the lines between admiration and intrusion.
To conclude, although being in the public eye guarantees a certain level of exposure, celebrities should not be denied the right of privacy. Intrusive press behavior can harm their mental health. By maintaining a safe boundary, we promote ethical ways of journalism, while still appreciating a celebrity’s contribution to the public society.
