Band 6+: In the past, important knowledge of culture and history was stored in museums. Nowadays information is freely available on the internet, therefore museums are no longer needed. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In contemporary society, the advancement of technology has brought in a lot of changes. Vast information about ancient history and the culture of one’s country is available for free of cost on the internet. I disagree with the given prompt, even though it is very convenient to access information from the web, individuals should still make the effort to go visit museums. This essay analyses the various perceptions of the disagreement.

Firstly, before technological advancement, people would visit museums and historical places, to understand and appreciate the traditions of one’s country. After the technological rise, there is a significant amount of information which can be accessed by every individual. Gaining practical knowledge is much more preferred and enjoyed than understanding something theoretically. An individual visiting a museum will have a practical insight of what had happened and understand the significance of the culture and tradition. People should take the initiative to encourage society to explore and gain knowledge about the ancient history by visiting various historical places outdoors which brings in a sense of nationalism.

Consequently, as anyone can access and post information on the internet it is difficult to identify the authenticity of the provided information. There are numerous amounts of irrelevant information present on the web. For example, we might have two completely different blogs on the same topic of interest. On the other hand, museums showcase the items used in the medieval period and the information is always authentic. So, to make people understand the value initiatives can be taken. One innovative approach would be to take students on historical trips to museums and ancient places to understand their importance. Additionally, Museums are places for tourist attractions, individuals with a like mindset would travel afar to visit them and value our traditions.

In conclusion, one should not neglect the importance of his country’s traditions and culture even though it is extremely convenient to access them online.
