For a long time, museums played a significant role in preserving both cultural and historical information. Nevertheless, some recently started doubting the need for museums due to possibility of getting data online, and I completely disagree with them due to two reasons.
The primary argument for support of museums is the fact that they provide clear and transparent evidences of artifacts. One can assume that the same exists on the internet, however, even the most popular sources such as Wikipedia, which openly admitted that they may be vulnerable for disinformation, cannot ensure the reliability of information. Thus, museums turn out to be the only trustworthy source of information nowadays, since people can not only view the exhibits, but also sometimes interact with them. What is more, such places will inevitably lose their reputation, hence popularity, if they neglect with fact-checking, therefore, it is a must for them to be scientifically accurate towards objects.
Another reason for disagreement is that museums are vital for educational purposes. It is clear that some subjects are better comprehended with actual demonstrations either because of their complexity or boredom. For example, some schools organize special museum tours for history classes to show students real appearance of artifacts or demonstrate the approximate condition of the area of the past, making the learning process more fascinating. In addition to this, some university courses include visits to museums, showcasing that they are not merely about preservation, but more of a useful tool for education.
In conclusion, I am convinced that museums are still necessary today for their authenticity and educational benefits.
