As the emergence of the Internet, information seems to be more and more accessible, and some people argue that there is no necessity for museums to exist any more. Personally, I totally disagree with this statement because of the following two reasons.
First of all, even though the Internet makes information acquisition much more convenient, the experience that it brings is totally different from visiting a real museum. By stepping into the museums, everything becomes touchable and visible, which gives visitors a strongly sensory feeling. This immersive experience makes them feel like going back into the history, by which they can experience the previous culture and appreciate the ancient beauty. Sometimes there will be cultural activies, art performances and hands-on workshops for visitors to get fully engaged in the history. On the contrary, by searching on the Internet, people will gain nothing but only basic words, pictures and figures.
Additionally, the benefits of museum existence come from many other aspects. On the educational level, museums could be considered as educational sites for students and kids to learn more about the past of their region or country. When it comes to tourism, museums can also serve as tourist attractions, which enables tourists to get to know about this destination in the fastest way. Famous museums can even attract more history fans to come and visit, which will subsequently stimulate the local economic development. However, the Internet can never achieve all these effects.
In conclusion, museums should definitely continue to exist, and can never be replaced by the Internet. Admittedly the Internet accelerates our life and create a more convenient life environment for people, the real feeling of history, the educational meaning, and the incentive to both tourism and local economy that museums bring to the society can never be surpassed.
