Food is essential to people’s daily routines, and in the past, people consumed local, in-season, or available foods. However, nowadays, a wide variety of products are available everywhere. In this essay, I will discuss why the advantages of this development outweigh its disadvantages.
On one hand, when all products are available to people, they may not have to wait for anything, whereas, if they were seasonal foods, people would have to wait until they are ripe. For instance, people from Russia may want to eat tropical fruits, but it is winter. However, they can just order them from Brazil or another country where tropical fruits are in season. Additionally, it also boosts global trading and contributes to economic growth. Countries can improve their economies by trading with other countries like Colombia or Ethiopia. It can lead to huge capital.
On the other hand, it also leads to overdependence on imports. Moreover, when the country that exports the items starts sanctions, it also has a negative effect on the country. Citizens will not be ready for this, and it will damage the economy and affect residents. Furthermore, it also leads to the decline of local agriculture and the loss of traditional production.
To sum up, it would be good to improve exports or just try to make products more available. Thus, it would also enhance the country. However, in this context, there is a negative impact from overdependence on imports or the decline of local agriculture.
